About Us
Wootton Bassett Amateur Swimming & Lifesaving Club – the ‘Otters’ – was formed in 1973. Based at the Lime Kiln Centre, the Club has maintained a focus on bringing a lifelong enjoyment of swimming to families through a combination of quality teaching and a fun atmosphere. Otters has one of the largest memberships in the county, with more than 300 members, largely sustained by the Club’s popular Learn to Swim section which remains successful in developing proficiency in all strokes. Unlike most swimming clubs, Otters also has its own Lifesaving section which allows children and adults to learn vital skills and also to obtain various qualifications. The Club also runs a Masters section which has grown in recent years.

The Club attends a series of events during the year for competition swimmers, including the county Summer and Winter leagues and a range of open meets. Competition squad swimmers have maintained a consistent level of performance and in March 2007 the Otters won Division 2 of the Wiltshire Winter League.

The Club was delighted to win a future for the Lime Kiln Leisure Centre following threatened closure in 2007, with many thanks to all those people who supported our campaign. We are working with the new management team from DC Leisure to ensure a stronger foundation and to strengthen club activities in line with Swim 21.

Here's just a few key facts about the Otters club (the details are all held in this site somewhere?)

We hold a sponsored swim for the junior club members which also gives them an opportunity to earn distance badges and certificates.

We hold an annual Gala in November, this is open to any member that is capable of swimming at least one length

We have a club social evening (buffet and disco) in early January, which includes a prize-giving ceremony for awards gained at the Club Gala and in other sections of the club (e.g. Lifesaving awards, coaches training awards)

What can we offer to you? Well you can join as many of the following activities as you like:

Swimming (we will try and find a space for all swimmers whatever age - so long as you are over 5)

Teachers (learn to swim, development and competition swimming and lifesaving).

Sport officials for galas, starters, time keepers, judges, recorders, team co-coordinators again the choice goes on and on and on!

Committee members (we have to cover a lot of work - accounts, club management of the various sections, fund raising, social events, club championships, facilities and equipment management and a few others)

Well that's a very brief summary of the club, if you want to know more either check out the rest of the web site or email us!

If you are interested in joining the club as a swimmer, volunteer or provide some sponsorship just email us and we'll get it sorted out.
