Newsletter 4/2004

Dear Squad Members/Parents/Guardians,

Summer League 2004

The Coaches would like to say a big ‘well done’ to everyone that took part in the Summer League. For the first time in a very long time we have managed to retain our place in Division 3. Promotion in the past has seen us demoted again the following year so this was a brilliant result. To those of you that didn’t get selected this year, please keep training and competing, you may well get picked next year!

Club Championships

You should all have received (and hopefully returned) your entry forms for this year’s Club Championships. The format has changed slightly and all of you now have the opportunity to compete in 50m, 100m and 200m distances. We would like to see all of you enter most of the events you are eligible for.

Winter League 2004/2005

Winter League Round 1 is in November and the dates of all rounds are given below. We finished last year in 18th place (which is where we started) so, if we can improve on that it would be great. Because Winter League is all relays we need far more swimmers to make the squad, additionally we also aim to give all swimmers the opportunity to swim in at least two of the four gala’s. In order to assist us with putting the squads together for each of the rounds we need confirmation of everyone’s availability. Please can you complete the tear off slip below and return it to Karen Hall as soon as possible. The venue for the first gala is Trowbridge, we will not know the venues for the subsequent rounds until after Round 1. There will be a coach laid on and, in an effort to cover more of the cost of hiring a coach, the fee will be £2.00 per person with no reduction for larger family groups.

Round 1 – 20 November 2004 – Trowbridge

Round 2 – 8 January 2005 – venue TBA

Round 3 – 29 January 2005 – venue TBA

Round 4 – 12 March 2005 – venue TBA

Note to Parents – Those of you whose children are new to the squad may, or may not, have noticed all of the officials (dressed in white) at all the gala’s we attend. Each club needs to provide timekeepers and judges for gala’s and, as well as coaching staff. The Otters are no exception. Unlike coaching, this is not a regular, weekly commitment but like coaching it is very important to the club that we have sufficient officials to cover at galas. If this is something that you feel you might be interested in (full training is given) please see one of the coaching staff and we will pass your details on. Alternatively, please email us via the website and your email (www.theotter@wootton-bassett-otters.info)will be passed on to Neil Barron our Competition Secretary. If we cannot continue to supply officials at galas the squad may be refused entry, which would be a real shame for the swimmers. We really need the help of those people who don’t already have any other regular commitments with the club as most of the coaches are also on the Committee and cannot take on any more commitments. Please give it some thought.

Thank you,

Coaching Committee

W.B.A.S.C.
